TMJ Muscle Pain Management

TMJ / Muscle Pain Management Botox relaxes the muscles associated with pain and headaches from clenching and grinding

How it Works

The masseter and temporalis muscles become tight from clenching and grinding causing.  These muscles do not tighten up evenly on each side. This can lead to changes in your bite and jaw tension and muscle pain from temporomandibular joint (TMJ). You will also be at greater risk or breaking teeth. Botox helps relax these muscles, allows your jaw to return to its natural position, and decreases the chances of tooth fracture. Botox is injected making the muscles loosen the tension when using those muscle.

What to Expect

We palpate your muscles and examine your bite and your teeth, to determine the amount of Botox you need. You may feel a slight pinch when the Botox is injected.

After Your Treatment

There is no down time. You should not touch, massage, or apply pressure to the treated areas for four to six hours. You will begin to feel the positive effects of the Botox within 24 to 72 hours. While slight bruising is possible, it is rare. We may recommend that you need a night guard as well, depending upon your situation. Slight bruising is rare.
